Wesley Absher Obituary Suicide Polk County, NE Death

Wesley Absher, 40, of Polk County, Nebraska, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Bryan Health West Campus in Lincoln, following injuries he sustained during a tragic incident earlier in the week.

The Nebraska State Patrol reports that Absher allegedly shot and killed 44-year-old Brian Gabel at a hog farm south of Shelby earlier this week. Absher then reportedly kidnapped his wife, taking her to a nearby farm where he assaulted her before turning the weapon on himself. The woman, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, managed to drive to the sheriff’s office in Osceola and report the crime on Tuesday morning.

Wesley’s passing has left his family, friends, and the community in deep mourning.
