A late-night shooting at a campus bar in Sarnia has left one young man dead and two others injured, prompting an active and ongoing police investigation.
Authorities confirmed the victim as Dane Nisbet, a 20-year-old Sarnia resident and well-known figure in the local hockey community. The incident occurred shortly before 1 a.m. during a student-run event held at a bar located on the campus of Lambton College.
Police were called to the scene after reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers discovered three males suffering from gunshot wounds in the patio area of the venue. Nisbet sustained critical injuries and was transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The other two victims were also taken to hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Officials stated that the injured individuals were known to Nisbet, though investigators have not confirmed the nature of their relationships or whether they are connected to any suspects.
Nisbet was recognized within the regional hockey community, having played for several teams including the Sarnia Legionnaires, Mooretown Flags, and North Middlesex Stars. Lambton College confirmed that he was a former student, and tributes have begun to emerge from teammates, coaches, and members of the local sports community.
Police say suspects remain at large, and no arrests have been made as of this time. Investigators are appealing to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information, video footage, or eyewitness accounts to come forward to help establish a clearer timeline of events.
Authorities continue to examine surveillance footage and gather statements as they work to determine what led to the shooting. They have not yet released a confirmed motive.
This marks the second homicide connected to the Lambton College community in just over a year, raising renewed concerns about safety at campus-related social events. Officials say further updates will be released as the investigation progresses.
