Erick John Obituary, Lake Charles, LA Accident Death: Gone But Never Forgotten
Erick John Killed, Multiple Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash Involving Suspected Impaired Driver
A Lake Charles man was tragically killed early Thursday morning in a three-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 27 near Louisiana Highway 397 in Calcasieu Parish, according to Louisiana State Police Troop D.
The incident occurred just before 6:00 a.m. on April 9, 2026, when troopers were dispatched to the scene in the Bell City area. Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 32-year-old Alfonso Arredondo of Port Neches, Texas, was traveling southbound on Highway 27 when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed the center line. Arredondo’s vehicle sideswiped two northbound vehicles: a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe and a 2000 Buick Park Avenue driven by 32-year-old Erick John of Lake Charles.
Following the collision, Arredondo reportedly lost control, veered off the roadway, entered a ditch, and overturned. Tragically, John, who was properly restrained, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Hyundai, along with four passengers, were also properly restrained. They were transported to a local hospital with injuries ranging from minor to moderate.
During the investigation, troopers observed signs of impairment in Arredondo. He was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on charges including Vehicular Homicide, five counts of Vehicular Negligent Injury, Driving While Intoxicated (Second Offense), and Driving Left of Center.
Authorities also collected routine toxicology samples for analysis as the investigation continues.
Louisiana State Police continue to emphasize the dangers of impaired driving, noting that it remains a leading cause of fatal crashes. They urge motorists to always drive sober, stay alert, and ensure all passengers are properly restrained.
