Destiny Betts Obituary, Miami, FL Car Accident Death: Tragic Loss
A recent report by The Read Optional has uncovered details of a tragic traffic collision involving Rueben Bain Jr., a standout player for the Miami Hurricanes football team and a projected top-10 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The incident, which took place in March 2024, has raised concerns due to the death of a passenger and the serious injuries sustained by others.
The crash occurred around 4:00 a.m. on March 17, 2024, on Interstate 95 in Miami. Bain, then a sophomore at the University of Miami, was driving a vehicle carrying four other passengers when it collided with another car. After the initial impact, Bain’s car reportedly veered off the road, striking concrete barriers on both sides of the highway before coming to a stop with significant damage.
One of the passengers, 22-year-old Destiny Betts, a college student from Georgia visiting Miami for spring break, suffered severe injuries. She was transported to Ryder Trauma Center, where she remained in a coma for nearly three months. Tragically, Betts passed away on June 13, 2024, from the injuries sustained in the crash, leaving behind a grieving family and friends.
In addition to Betts, another passenger was hospitalized, while two other individuals—teammates Wesley Bissainthe and Nyjalik Kelly—were also in the car. Kelly later transferred to the University of Central Florida.
Bain was issued a citation for careless driving, but the charge was dismissed just two weeks before Betts’ death. No field sobriety test was conducted at the scene, and details regarding this decision have not been made public. While the report has not been independently verified by major news organizations, if confirmed, this tragedy could have far-reaching personal and legal consequences. The accident highlights the devastating impact of reckless driving, especially in the early morning hours.
