Daris Benally Obituary, Great Falls, MT Accident Death: Tragic Loss: Airman Dies in Off-Base Crash

A young airman assigned to Malmstrom Air Force Base has tragically died following an off-base vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon. The 24-year-old airman, Daris Benally, originally from Rapid City, South Dakota, was involved in the crash at approximately 3:12 p.m. and was immediately transported to Benefis Health System. Despite efforts to save him, Benally was later pronounced dead.

Benally served with the 341st Missile Maintenance Squadron as a missile handler. His sudden death has deeply affected his colleagues and the entire 341st Missile Wing community. In a statement, Col. Luke Stover, commander of the 341st Maintenance Group, expressed profound sorrow, offering condolences to those who knew and loved Benally.

“There are no words that can fill the void left by this loss,” Stover said. “Beyond the uniform, Daris was a friend, a teammate, and a loved one. Our support and deepest sympathies go out to all who knew him.”

Col. Daniel Voorhies, commander of the 341st Missile Wing, also shared his grief, noting the profound impact the loss has had on the unit.

“The loss of Daris Benally weighs heavily on many of us,” Voorhies remarked. “Moments like this affect everyone differently, and it’s important we take care of ourselves and each other.”

As the investigation into the crash continues, authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. Benally’s death serves as a somber reminder of the sacrifices made by those in the service, and he will be remembered by his fellow airmen, friends, and family.
